I can't believe it! The weather here is uncanny. There's no rhyme or reason to what we're experiencing. A couple of days ago our front flower bed looked like this:
| daffodils aplenty - front garden |
Today it looked like this:
| where's my daffodils??? |
The official measurement at the airport said .1" of snow - but since it was measurable, this is the latest date EVER that Portland has had a measurable amount of snow. I wonder if I have to send my name in somewhere to be part of the the record breaking weather pattern! When Karina went to work she sloshed through the snow and slush to the tunnel going into downtown, and upon exiting the tunnel, there was NO SNOW! The West Hills were the recipients of most of the precipitation. Isn't that special! We needed kids to make snow-angels and snow-people and snow-forts and snow-balls. But alas, there were none. Schools got postponed for two hours (they're learning) and now there's no (well, hardly any) snow left. It never got below freezing, and rain is forecast.
Even had a bout with hail the other day: I call this "Hail, yes!"
This vid clip was taken from my office looking out my door in to the protected atrium - the storm was MUCH WORSE on the rest of the property! Must have lasted for at least 12 more seconds ... treacherous weather it has been! I just don't know what to do.
UPDATE!!! The counter for our computers has still only got one coat of verathane - with the WEATHER we've been having, it's barely gotten into the 40s, so that means the garage doesn't make it up to 55 so I can work with the stuff. So Bernie is still waiting ... when does the warranty actually start - when you purchase or when you finally get it out of its boxes???
Last Sunday's sermon introduction began with Denver Broncos Tim Tebow ... what a difference 4 days makes ... now he's with the Jets (?) Giants(?) (do I care?) so even the sermon is obsolete. I know - obsolescence has been a complaint of yours for more times than just last Sunday - heh, heh - beat ya to it!
We're doing the "Journey With Jesus" again this year for family ministry. I've always had a special place in my heart for this experience. If you want to see it, it's on our website posted on the Pastor's Blog - click on:
Hope you enjoy the interlude ...
That's about it from here ... except for the Iowa count-down 47 - 46 - 45 - 44 - 43 days to go! I sure hope it's not snowing there in May! But I suppose it's not impossible either.
Be good to each other. We love ya.
Karina and Dan
WOW...you have had Iowa weather...and we are experiencing overcast, drizzle, rain, drizzle, mist, humid days. Whaaaaaattttsss with that?
ReplyDeleteHave to listen to your Tebow sermon moment. Did you say anything about Oregon Ducks beating the Hawkeyes? No, I didn't think so!
We also HOPE there will be NO WHITE STUFF while you are here! That would just be extremely sad.
btw, the daffodils were stunning.
'Journey With Jesus' -- absolutely what this tired soul needed this morning. Emotional week around here; the sorrows go on-and-on for one young man in our home, but, it has to be God giving him strength for each new day. Trying hard to give him at least one truth about Christ each morning that he can carry with him when he leaves at the end of May. When we look back, I know that Larry and I will see all the blessings of this year. I pray that sometime in the future, whether near or far, the young man will be able to see the blessings. Right now his mother is making each day difficult for him and that makes it difficult to remind him that she's still his mother and because God loves him, he must also love her, 'warts and all.'
ReplyDeleteYou don't know him, but, I'm asking you to please remember him in your prayers.
Thank you for sharing just the right thing this morning.
Love you -- sis
...And another thing - ha! Just want you to know that now I'm only l sermon behind. Just listened to the 'Cleaning' awhile ago. Well, that was very helpful -- thanks. Love listening to you, brother. Wish Larry and I could make it a habit of being right there every Sunday, but, you'd get tired of us, so, we'll stay put.
ReplyDeleteLove you both -- R and L
Though we don't know your house-guest, Rhoda, he is in our prayers - that God give him guidance and direction, even (and especially) when he is least aware of it. He is so blessed to have you and Larry as guardians/mentors for this most important year of his life.
DeleteThanks for the "journey" reflection; I watch that more times than I can count, and am always taken aback by the reality of what is happening - it's one of those "participation at two levels" kind of things ... on the surface it really cool - but the heart works overtime every time I view it. One of the video clips I made last year has a pre-schooler leading his family to the garden area; having them all sit down on the grass; and he leads them in a prayer and the Lord's Prayer - if that doesn't touch the heart, nothing will!
Looking forward to our May-cation!

Just listened to yesterday's Homily - beautiful!
Delete1) To my brothers -- if, when I was a little child, I held onto something too tightly and screamed: "It's mine and you can't have it!"...today I offer my sincere apology. I'm guessing that I must have done that, probably more than once. And Dan, with the amazing memory, could probably tell you every detail of each occasion. And Mark, with the patience of Job regarding his only sister, is probably shaking his head in agreement to brother Dan's telling comments.
2) Dustin and Glenn both know that their transition date out of 625 Tenth Street is on or before the last day of May. During these weeks remaining, may I remember that I'm not here to be served, but rather, to serve. "The Lord has need of it." What compelling words for each day and I'm grateful to have heard them this afternoon. God grant me the perseverance to follow through on what He desires of me.
Lord, bless us as we travel this momentous week with You.
