WORK DAYS and PLAY DAYS

Isn't God good?!?!  We have been blessed with wonderful weather and trying to take advantage of it!  Since last I wrote, a project for the Community Garden was begun, and not quite half completed ... BUT ... last Saturday we "set up shop" in the church parking lot for a work day to make garden boxes for the C.G.  We had been told of about 5 people (who normally would have been there) who couldn't make it, but assumed that there would be more (the old adage about 'assuming' is still valid, heh, heh).  So Karina and I arrived at 8:00 to get the place ready for our mass production project (22 regular 4x8 boxes, 10 inches high; and three 4x8 boxes 30" high for handicap boxes.)  At 9:00 we got going;  at 10-ish David L arrived to mow the lawn - but after doing that gave us about 1 1/2 to 2 hours ... and we finally quit at 4:30.  Bad News - Good News:  we didn't get done, but we got 11 made! (and the end caps to one of the handicap boxes).  We worked like a pair of troopers, and really had fun!
 How the day began

 sawin' away

drillin' to beat the band - (working on the end cap to the h-capped bed)

the picture says "4:35pm" - 10 DOWN 12 TO GO!

didn't get a close up of the wood, but it's almost a true 2" by 10" rough cut cedar board!

so the work day was a success ... and have another one scheduled this Saturday ... that's good, because all my tools are sitting in my office, waiting to be returned to the house   :{ !

Then came the PLAY DAY - Kristi arrived on Tuesday afternoon about 1:30!  We stopped at Concordia and saw the plaque that had been mounted in the Children's Learning Center that had been dedicated as a memorial gift for Lin ...

then had lunch at Kristi's favorite Sub Shop

Wednesday she headed down to Roseburg to see Nana and all - comes back for the weekend to fly back to Phoenix on Saturday.

and finally - it happened last Saturday ... when we left the house to work at church none of the daffodils were out ... when we got home, this is what greeted us at our driveway!

 What a day!

that's about it from here ...

Love ya.

  1. Seeing you guys working w/o jackets makes me envious. We are bundled up with hoods and gloves! Those volunteer projects are interesting, but kudos to you both for persevering and continuing through the day. "That's a good job ALMOST done!"

Good to see Kristi and the plaque in Lin's memory. Very sweet.

  2. re: the plaque ... neither Kristi nor I had ever seen it before. Though we've been on campus many, many times, we were only there for special events - concerts, etc. - and the room was always closed for the evening or weekend, or whatever. So it was nice to finally view it.
