CHILLY ... WITH A TRACE OF SUN

As I hear the news of the Midwest weather - even got a call from our organist today, who is snowed-in in Wisconsin, I am amazed at the weather differences.  Last weekend Karina and I were at the church preparing for the Community Garden - I took our mower down and prepared the area where the raised beds will go - by mowing the area as short as possible, and adding Round-Up to kill off the grass; now the next step is making the boxes for the raised beds ... this weekend, I think.  The CG crew was also transplanting vine maples from the new garden area to the woods, where they will be out of the way, yet still viable to the property.

After doing the work at church we came home and decided our own lawn needed mowing, so took the time to do that.  Took a couple of pictures to "gloat" over the spring flowers that just keep coming up - the only non-appearing grouping thus far is the daffodils - but they are soon on their way.

As I was looking at our raised beds, lo and behold there were still beets and carrots from last year - looks like we didn't get EVERYTHING harvested!!!

actually, the 'c' was quite sweet - just a little muddy

Karina's and Sunny (dog) are fine ... but had quite a scare on Sunday morning.  She had been to first service, then went home to walk the dog.  Upon returning to the house there were two stray dogs (had gotten out of a neighbors yard) in our front yard.  Since they were behind the car parked in the driveway K didn't see them till they started growling.  She hollered "Back Off!" and they didn't move, just kept circling in front of her.  She made her way to the side of the house and found a 5' piece of PVC pipe to use to wave at them, and they kept their distance.  But they wouldn't let her & Sunny back into the house.  Sunny went submissive, and became hard to lead just laying there.  Since she wasn't able to get to the front door she just stared screaming "HELP ME!  HELP ME!  HELP ME! ..."  A guy in a pick-up stopped (after he had made a call to the police), and gave K relief to get into the house, though the dogs didn't get away from him, either.  K got in the house and called 9-1-1.  The dogs stayed in the yard several minutes (to mark their territory).  Later the dogs made their way home (evidently on their own) and the police came and .  The owner was cited for "non-control" or something.  A little later the owner came and apologized profusely for the dogs ... As K shared the story with him, he was just amazed.  But as I said all are well - just a little shook up.

Got a call from Kristi - she's heading this way for her spring break (Mar 11-15).  Will join us on Tues/Wed and leave again on Saturday - she'll head to Roseburg to see Nana as well.

That's about it from here ... hopefully we will endure whatever excitement comes our way this week!

We love ya'

Karina and Dan

  1. Dog-gone! What a scarey TALE.

    Poor Sunny!

    Poor Karina!

    I'd have been screaming too!

Glad the owner was apologetic in the end - rather than hearing the dogs were rabid & on the loose! YIKES!

  3. Sure, rub it in -- sights of green grass, purple flowers, vegetation, while we get blasted with another snowstorm and another round of respiratory virus. Oh well, we'll have our Spring soon enough, too! :)

Glad to hear K and Sunny were safe, it all sounds very frightening.

    B&B and all
