The title brings to mind the old Chicago song ... however I'm not in the park, it's not the 4th of July - it's just Saturday and I'm at the office dabblin' for tomorrow's worship - and tomorrow's Bible Class - and Monday's confirmation class - and a memorial service next week. Once again there's a rush of deadlines. Oh well ... they'll all get done ... one way or another.
Not much happening in these dark days of winter. Not bitterly cold (get's down to the high 20s and low 30s at night), but cold enough that the fog freezes and leaves commuting/traveling a little scary at times. And the worst part, the fog - which gives into low cloud cover - doesn't burn off ... and I think we're suffering from SAD, the 'darkness' depression. Hard to get out from under it's aura.
So what IS happening? A voter's meeting is coming next week - time to pass the budget; we always do it in arrears - waiting until the rush of the holidays are completely over; will also be considering a memorial stained glass windows to grace the surround of our front doors
the proposal is to "glass in" the six panels around the door to carry out the theme of the "Resurrection" window on the south wall (barely visible above the wheelchair). The new window is based on the hymn "For All The Saints". We have an artist in the congregation who has presented the mock-ups and sketches for the final product. So we'll see what happens.
in 1966 the resurrection window (above) cost us $1400; today's it's considerably more! One oddity, the man who did the Resurrection window (I understand as a student project some 46 years ago) has been asked to complete the new project (though nobody knew it was he who had done the original - he just happens to be one of the few stained glass artisans still around!) A story, I'm sure, will be coming from that, heh, heh - "Lost but Found" or "Shelved but not Forgotten" or "Leaded but Still Headed" (I have no idea what that means...)
January 27th is the day of reckoning.
We are enjoying good health - the world around us has the flu - but the flu-shots and tons of hand sanitizer are keeping us going.
Karina is working today (the CardioGroup decided they needed to bring in more revenue ... oops, needed to "serve more people" and there weren't enough hours from Monday through Friday) so it is the first of many Saturdays {for her} that will be filled in the year to come.
Really can't think of much else to say ... Did you get our annual Christmas/Epiphany letter from us? You didn't? Perhaps it's because it still hasn't been created. I actually think a blog tells more than an annual letter ... how's that for sour grapes??? But thanks to all who sent cards and family pictures - they truly were appreciated!
Love ya!
From the left coast,
Karina and Dan
