Goodness sakes, the weather has been weathering on this poor soul! For the last couple of weeks we've seen the spring flowers poking through the surface - making me think surely Spring has Sprung! Even Sunday I was working in the hot tub because the temperature was close to 60! I even took some pics for the Iowa Birthday girls to celebrate on the 6th and 7th of March:
| Happy Birthday, Judy |
| Happy Birthday, Rhoda |
And got the lawn mowed!
Then wouldn't you know the weather changed!
Now I know it's not like there's 18 inches of snow, or anything, but for us left coasters, it is a driving catastrophe! Schools are late in opening; morning classes are canceled; life is interrupted beyond belief. And I love it!
Last Night we went to the play-reading of "A Raisin in the Sun" - if you don't remember it, it's time to check it out again. What a marvelous piece it is. It was written by Lorraine Hansbury, who died at the age of 34 (pancreatic cancer), but who really understood people and their concerns and the priorities of life. One of my favorite lines was when Moma says: "There
is always something left to love. And if you ain’t learned that,
you ain’t learned nothing." Anyway - take me up on the challenge - go and re-read the play! It's great!
Tonight we work at the "Transition House" serving meals - 1st Tuesday of the month again - seems like we were just there! Guess that's what happens when February arrives - even in a leap year, it's still a short month.
Will soon have a picture to show of the family/office room! It's getting closer all the time. Stained the desktop yesterday - then have to coat it with Urathane (sp?) and put it in it's proper place. Boy, will Karina ever be happy! Will be able to get Bernie out of the box and start stichin'.
Kind of a slow week here ... but always fun to update the news.
Love ya.

Well, thank you for those EARLY birthday wishes. Once again you have forgotten that your sister is 1 day older than your beloved SIL. It's ok now that we've reached that magical governmental 'special' age cuz we sometimes have trouble remembering who is older by a day. It is my mission in life to NEVER EVER forget the one thing that keeps me younger.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are so pretty...and even more amazing...the mowing of the grass. Your brother is a tad bit envious. (just a tad!)
So, was it the heavy rains that caused all the delays? We assume so.
Tnx again for remembering the old folks in Iowa!
can't believe I missed it again!!! I even wrote in in my calendar ... WRONGLY! Such is life! I was sure it was Kristi, 5th; Judy, 6th, and Rhoda, 7th. well, there's always next year ...
ReplyDeleteI could certainly blame the delays on the weather, but whether I do or not, it's just not true. I think it's call procra
it seems I seldom finish anyth

I just doubled clicked the 'rain' picture and saw that it was indeed a 'snow' pix...which makes your post more logical. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Hard to imagine that just double-clicking can bring logic to my younger bro's sense, but, if you say so, Judy.
ReplyDeleteIt's such fun to 'dig' a little when you're at such a distance, Dan.
But, on a more serious note, thank you once again, Dan, for allowing your reading fans the opportunity to think just maybe Judy really IS a tad bit older than Rhoda. You're such a good brother.
A little drum roll, please, for Bernie's expected ascension from the box in the very near future -- Bd-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d.
...And a big HEY to Karina, who tries very hard to be the voice of sanity in the Portland household.
NEWS FLASH!!! Larry's retiring at the end of THIS school year! Yea!!
(tongue-in-cheek) OOOOWWWWW! it's like a blade has pierced my heart; though I don't wear a Kevlar vest, my BMI protects me from such darts and arrows! the distance from there to here is also a help in such situations, so dig in!
ReplyDeleteand Rhoda, thanks for the 25 bucks to make you a day younger than Judy; I never expected that gift!
and yer right about my bride, Karina - "you go, girl!"

I so enjoy the banter of you siblings near and far. Ladies. please clarify for ME your B-day, and I will make sure it gets on the calendar correctly .
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope the bouquet of crocuses brought some sunshine to your day. In our family, we celebrate our b-day the whole month, so live it up sisters!!!
As for being the voice of sanity, let's just say I have learned to be even more patient than I was before my husband entered my life. But what a joyful life I have with him beside me.
Have not had time to get Bernie out of the box anyway as I have my new job, which I love, and am working on a proposal for a Community Garden at church. I think I should retire like Larry so I can dedicate my time to the service projects that I am involed in, but Dan thinks b/c he is older (waiting for sarcastic remarks with this statement from IOWA) he should retire first.
Although, it was really nice to come home on Monday night after work to dinner prepare and the house cleaned up.
Expecting rain and possibly snow tomorrow, after temps in the 60's during the day and down to 27 at night the past 3-4 days. Welcome to March in the Pacific NW.
Got to get back to Saturday chores, as I hi-jacked D's computer. Love, from his other half, K.
