Goodness yes!
So much has occurred since my last post, I don't know where to begin. So we left the birthday party on Saturday evening about 6:00 pm to start making our way back home, due to the memorial service the following Tuesday, and since I needed to meet with the family on that Monday (the 17th). All worked out well. The service was for a great lady, Lucille. Being the country-western fan that I am (HAH!) I began the homily by singing (and the family knew it was coming) "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille!" I have no ideas how many times Lucille must have heard that song - I even shared a time I had sung it to her in a pinochle game, when she and I were partners, and she called the suit I didn't have, so I responded in song: "You picked a fine time to PICK CLUBS, Lucille". The service was truly a joy - it is a time for celebration when a child of God comes home ... I ended up using the verses from Ecclesiastes (a time to ... and a time to ...) and with a play on words from the song called it "A Fine Time, Lucille!" One of the largest attended services I'd had at PoP - the family were true/native Oregonians, and never lived farther than 25 miles from PoP in their 80+ years of life (married for over 60).
Then came the weekend, and the next week, and it seemed like I just never got caught up after our vacation break ... thus the "paucity of posting" on the blog.
Made it through Reformation Sunday and All Saints' Sunday (the latter with only a few tears) and am finally back into the swing of things.
Hey Rhoda! It was so great to hear Mom's voice and have that chat with her - that's for calling! You know, even though I know she doesn't know who I am - though she called me Dan once, even without my saying so - I kind of convince myself that she, at that moment in time, knows what's going on. I did appreciate her updating me on the Iowa football game - as she would relate the time and score to me ... always glad when the Hawks come through. So I watched the DVR of the game on Saturday night ... I sure hope the U of I administration paid the refs well for that game. I think Michigan scored a couple of times in those last 4 downs. Perhaps the saving grace would have been that they couldn't have scored a 2 point conversion anyway, thus they would have won by two ... so GO HAWKS GO: to MSU and Purdue and the newbies, NEBRASKA. It seems your destiny is in your own hands. But please don't pull a Minnesota special from out of your back pockets - that one was really verstunken!
Celebrated birthday last night for Karina - made Chicken Kiev and had roasted veggies (even with cubed butternut squash) - it was delicious! (oops, no pics ...)
We're doing well. Hope those who read this are as well.
Love ya.

for anyone who enjoys photo/graphic programs (Photoshop-like) and refuse to pay the money, here's one I found that's free until November 24th from the MAGIX corporation. It's really rather fun. Takes a while to load; tutorial videos can be loaded at a later time; it's a bundled package that will take care of most, if not all of your picture editing ideas ...

Too many things to comment on...but before me ole weak mind forgets, I want to say the following:
ReplyDelete1. I love the church's website. It is so much easier to navigate with the drop down menus. Kudos to the POP techies.
2. Karina....We didn't get a phone call to you to 'sing'. Hope your special day was just that. Sounds like the evening menu was delicious!
More to follow.......
Hey, he lives!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was truly touched by the story of the funeral for Lucille -- the family must have appreciated the special touch.
Karina, hope you got all our birthday messages. We tried early by sending our wish through the voice of Dan -- did he remember? Then, we tried again on Sunday, but nope, no answer on any phones. Hope your day was great!
Br-r-r-r, very cold this morning as I put the garbage bags out on the curb. Walked on the treadmill in the front garage and that warmed me up. Hope you are enjoying fine Oregon weather this day!
