A LITTLE "KETCHUP" - without the mustard

so where do I start?

Back in Scottsdale (sometimes referred to as 'snottsdale' - it's probably earned the reputation) - getting settled became a reality.  After all the boxes were in the apt, it was time to make room for everything else.  Kristi had basically sold her furniture, etc. so that made moving a little easier;  with the proceeds of the sale of the condo she set aside some money to buy 'new'.  So off we went shopping;  it was quite fun - found a leather sofa at "THE DUMP" - hardly an appropriate name; open only on weekends, always things on sale, the rest of the week is delivery days ... then I had my first IKEA adventure as we found knickknacks, storage stuff, and other "things I can't do without".  Then on to Best Buy to get a 38" flatscreen and wall mount equipment; that sure makes it handy to keep out of the way.  I bought her a GPS - certainly a needed instrument for Phoenix driving - Garmie did us well as we traversed the city.  You saw the first meal we had at the apt; did more grilling the following nights - really handy, somebody starts grilling (charcoal) about 5:00 pm and the fire stays going all evening - you just a a few more briquets, and the next group is ready to do the same when you leave.  Plus it's a great way to meet your neighbors.  We went to two services at "Shepherd of the Desert" on Sunday - the 8:00 traditional and the 10:00 Megalife; the former was comfortable, the latter was amazing -  the bass guitarist of the heavy metal (?) group Megadeath has become a Christian; in the process he's made inroads with other musicians and they do their "shtick" at this service; Christian music I've never heard before to be sure; but well-done!  They meet in a separate facility (a church/pre-school sotd purchased for their pre-school location); the sanctuary is basically black with all stage lighting for accents.  The purpose is to reach out to people who wouldn't normally be comfortable in a traditional or even 'contemporary' setting.  I'll add a video clip for you to see.

enjoyed time at sport's bars, restaurants, etc.  but had to call it quits on Tuesday and fly back to Portland.  Was so thankful for our time together.  The next day Carol and Megan left, so it's been pretty quiet for Kristi, I suppose. We've played phone tag - but haven't visited, yet.

was fun being 'back in the saddle' at PoP yesterday as well.  Had fun with the Great Commission sermon - had a lot of comments on the "drama" of the "Remember the Night" song;  the service is posted, and if you don't hear it - the end of the service has an audio clip of Irving Berlin 's song sung by Kathryn Grayson - it worked marvelously well live and in person - on 'tape' it's a little hard to hear.

Karina's back to work today after her leave of absence and surgery recuperation time;  so good to have her laughter and smiling countenance (read dimple)!  Hope all goes well with her today and she can look forward to every tomorrow at the hospital again.

can't think of much more to say - other than, hope we're all ketched-up.

some random pics - enjoy!

  1. Wow, so much to ketch-up in one blog entry! Kristi digs look very nice and inviting to her and to her future house guests. The little touches to make a structure a home...and to think you were her Handyman. Hope she has many successful, happy years in AZ. Can't look at the good-bye pix w/o feeling a twinge of sadness.

Interesting details on SOTD church/school and the service offerings on Sunday morning. Listened to the audio/video clips too. How nice that you were able to worship w/ K before leaving and experience SOTD together. Perhaps she'd already done that...but nice to go together and have a point of reference for future conversations.

Good to hear Mrs. KW is back at work and feeling invigorated. We echo your wishes for her future working days at the hospital.

Then, there is the sermon. We just went to church tonight after supper. AMAZING! We loved the detailing of the verbs and expounding of each. I remember hearing that old song too, but had forgotten it almost totally until you gave the final phrase. I was pretty sure you were going to stamp your foot and tell the congregation to listen up to your challenge - and maybe you did! No video to prove otherwise!

So, the rain keeps coming and coming and coming. Moville, IA suffered some damage last night to roof (lifted off)...unofficial thoughts of tornadic activity. It is raining again as I write with more on tap for tomorrow. The ground is super saturated and the river is out of it's banks and creeping closer to us. Our sump pump is working vigorously. We've ordered a dehumidifier for the basement. Our mama robin continues to keep her young dry and warm during this episode. Tomorrow's temperatures are only in the 60's. Weird for us in June.
