what a week! "stuff" keeps happening, but it keeps me on my toes! with the congregation I had another memorial service on Friday afternoon; have a graveside service this Friday - will be nice to move on! although I really do appreciate the opportunity to conduct such services - God's assurance and comfort are gifts that can only be given away. which reminds me of today's Gospel - which I may comment on later.
this spring the Sunday School took on a "cross ministry" in which crosses were made, then stained, then "woodburned" with the recipients names; the group (teachers and kids) made about 50 to present to the graduating Kindergartners at Prince of Peace - and then made 16 more for the kids graduating from the pre-school at the church where our school director will be moving this summer - kind of a neat way of passing on the faith. was a pretty impressive display when all was said and done.
yesterday was the Prince of Peace Great Bike Ride of May 21, 2011! we had about a dozen riders (and yes, I did it too!) was a scenic trip from Manning to Stewart State Park - an old railroad grade that, though it was only 7 miles, was uphill!!! all seven miles - ugh! but what a gorgeous ride. saw the old "railroad crossing signs" along the way; was a lovely tree-covered trip, went over a railroad trestle, made it to the "top" where the day-camp was - had a picnic with our "Amazing Grays" - the seniors group at PoP; then had a fun time with the homemade - 'bottle launchers' - great fun for all. then back down the hill and literally DOWNHILL all the way - probably pedaled less than 25 times on the way down! even reached speeds of up to 81 MPH!!! (well maybe 30). What took 1 hour and 40 minutes to get up took about 20 minutes to get down. but as is always the case, a "good time was had by all." I shared a couple video clips at worship today in the opening announcements - yes even the funny one!
the garden is showing sprouts rising - radishes, beets, carrots, beets, peas and beans - tiny, yet breaking through the surface. oops, I just looked up - it's raining - plants will no doubt be doubled in size by tomorrow! and even if they aren't - I'll never tell!
shared a video from Sir Ernest Shackleton - British explorer to Antarctica in 1914 - point was taking risks - and was used as the introduction to the sermon ... Google his name to see the videos - movies taken at the time by the photographer aboard ship! fascinating story if you haven't heard it before; had a lot of comments on the video clip - as well as the sermon.
had lunch today at a "new-to-us" restaurant - BISCUITS - (a local franchise that recently opened a new shop near the church) - great food, but (if you can believe this) more food than I could eat! sorry I forgot to take a picture ...
do take care.

A question:
ReplyDelete1. Who lugged the food up the 7 mile hill?
A restaurant named Biscuits surely must have offered tasty fare. You must return and let your kin in the heartland know what they might be missing. There are some pretty good biscuit makers in this family...and one 'wannabe' biscuit maker! Insights welcomed!
Have a good week sharing the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ - especially with those who grieve.
