YOU GOT LUCKY, BUSTER!

Daylight Savings Time, huh?
why so early?  what was wrong with the old April to October plan?  And why am I complaining?!?!

well, last night as I walked through the house I "reset" every clock I encountered.  after we finally made it to the bedroom Karina asked did you set the alarm?  well, of course I "reset" the clock - but failed to set the alarm!
fortunately ... after turning off the light I got out of bed to reach over to get my cell phone; and from a wife who had already been asleep for some time, "what are you doing?"  "setting my cell phone alarm."  "why?"  "just as a back-up."  "OK,  goodnight."  "Goodnight."

so with one hour less, I slept well, and was refreshed, but the alarm never went off.  the big dummy (that's me) had reset the clock but failed to turn on the alarm.  BUT  the cell phone came through!  Hurray Verizon!  that's probably the last time I'll ever congratulate Verizon!  so I missed my Sunday morning wake up regimen - Liann Hanson of NPR with Will Shortz and the Sunday morning Quiz (I don't think I've missed the quiz once in the past 10 years) - but today I missed it.  was it age?  lame-brain-ity?  No, I think it's a government conspiracy!  because DST should NEVER start in March!  March is for like 92% of all my relative's birthdays!  I have enough trouble trying to remember them!  Please don't belabor me with DST also.
there!  my rant is over.  I'm good, now.

was a great week for learning.  as I saw my brother making his first cake, I also made my first cake - pancakes, however.  my lovely Frau took a pic to capture the truth - and yes, they were made from scratch!  buttermilk, no less.  only had enough left over for about three more meals ... as Karina didn't say, but I'm sure thought - "5 cups of buttermilk?  and a cup of milk?  and 5 cups of flour ... just exactly how many were you planning to serve???"  oh well ... I tried!  unfortunately she needed the stove to start 2+ gallons of soup for Ash Wednesday soup supper.  we did make it through, however - one p-cake at a time!

and my carpentry is going on ...  the family room is looking pretty "trim"! if I do say so myself.

overwhelming week of sorrows and experiences.  last week I mentioned the transfiguration of Terry - well the real reason is he was diagnosed with a brain tumor - how terrible; also had a delightful lady, Karla, suffer a stroke while traveling in California - not talking, or responding at all, yet (after four days).

in our prayers we remembered all the folks in Japan who suffered from the earthquake/tsunami - Valorie came up to me after service and said, did you know that Andy (her husband) was in Tokyo for the earthquake on Tuesday and also for the 8.9 on Thursday?  Praise the Lord he's home safely - Andy commented that after a while he finally turned on his video phone and still got over a minute of "shaking". the tsunami, as you've probably heard did damage on the Oregon coast in places - unbelievable how that works so many thousands of miles away!

with the time change had pretty slim pickins' in first service - but had some nice comments on the sermon.  if you choose to listen, enjoy the Billy Crystal story.  and, don't open the beautiful package!
you can hear it Monday after it is posted here:

and of course - the flowers are a-bloom all around the yard.

enjoy the past week pics!

love ya!

  1. Well, that was another great sermon, Pastor Dan. We just had Monday night church in the kitchen. I love the measured delivery you adopt in preaching. Tnx again for directing up to POP/Sermons/ etc....

How many of those flapjacks are in the freezer? Looks like the potential was great - maybe for about 60! That's a lot of syrup/butter etc.

Back to the sermon. We will try hard to 'stay alert','pray for guidance' and 'fail in unwrapping' this week. Good encouragement for each and every week.

Our 'short week' is 3 days before we head north to hear a sermon from the other preacher! We are looking forward to the entire experience. MORE blogging potential.

Have a good week...and thanks again for the phone conversations.

  3. thanks for the comments; I do enjoy preaching!

have a great time in the Nort Kuntry ... send my greetings as well ...

and yah, the site needed a facelift. isn't that a cool globe? and it even knows where I live ... reminds me of the old story that tried to determine the greatest invention of all times - one guy says GPS, another says the computer, and the third guy won't have it. He says - the thermos bottle! The thermos bottle? All it does is keeps liquids hot or cold, what's so great about that? He responds, "but how does it know?"

  4. ...ya know, I should probably send your play-by-play construction pix to Rod 'the Builder' Elson. You remember him, Dan, right? He'd be so proud of you! Your work does look beautimous - way to go, bro.

As for the 'cakes' - whew! They look especially yummy and I'm wondering how many Shrove Tuesdays-to-come they'll serve? Wow, what a load! Had we been there, Larry would have helped you make a dent in the stack. I would have limited myself to two, spread them with peanut butter, rolled them up, and eaten them like fajitas; love them that way.

By the way, what kind of soup went to church?

Haven't listened to the sermon yet, but I'll have to save that for next week. Expecting Lorna and son Rick on the plane tonight and then Larry and I head for Indiana early tomorrow morning.

Flowers are gorgeous; I'm jealous. Ya, I know, jealousy is sinful, but we're in Lent and I know that sin has been forgiven. I'll work on it, though.
