Can't believe it's been that long since last I blogged. A lot of things are/were going on, but I mainly just lost track of time. So, as I looked back, there was the beginning of the Education Year - "Journey of Faith". The footprints stayed for another week - to make sure even more people could catch the spirit - then they were removed. But it's kind of cute, now ... because the footprints were laid on the floor, and then a piece of contact paper was placed above them, the residue of the 'stick-um' still remains and the 'aura' of a footprint is still there. I love it! Reminds us we're still on the journey!
Couldn't have planned it better if we'd tried! Not only that ... I had a funeral Tuesday (for a former friend of PoP); the place was packed ... and the 'residue' was all over the carpet, so it became a 'teaching' moment. I related how our theme was "Journey of Faith" and what the footprints meant, but then got into the message which I entitled "Life is a Journey." Had many comments on the day - but mainly for what follows -
one other piece to the story, the 'gal' that died (52 yr old - single mom - adopted 2 Chinese girls ages now 4 & 7; no one left in the family, except the two little girls (a whole 'nuther story someday); well, mom had a great support group with other families who had adopted Chinese girls - I think there were about 10-12 total ... Since there was no family for procession, I processed down the aisle with all these little girls (oldest maybe 10); they each had a flower to put in a vase at the base of the altar. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house ... well, I really can't say that, its that mine were so filled with 'joy' that I really couldn't see anybody else's. You know what I mean.
What else? It was good to have Dorothy and June here on the 17th for the Susan B. Komen "Race for the Cure". Again there were about 40,000 walkers/runners participating. There were only 4 in the 'group' this year - D and J and Karina and Elaine (friend of ours from Roseburg). I never got a picture of the four of them, but here's two ...
Karina and her mom at the Health Fair on the Saturday previous.
In 37 years of ministry, I never preached on Esther - but Sunday's alternate OT lesson is from the book of Esther. Am having fun preparing the message - you'll find out how I did after Sunday! Thus far, though, I'm pleased!
Sadly, there is a great deal of the States of Oregon and Washington ablaze with grass fires and forest fires and fire fires! Hopefully relief will come soon, but there's been no precipitation at all! (new records for that as well) What we have is some pretty smokey skies most of the day; overcast-looking - but have phenomenal sunsets! Last night is started out a powerful orange, and as the sun made its way to the horizon, it turned a gorgeous pink. The pics don't do it justice - but what a sight!
Well, that's about it from the left coast.
Love ya.
Karina and Dan
