Looking at my "recent" posts and realized it's been a looooong time since I last updated. Mea Culpa! It's been a fun couple of weeks since I last blogged. So let's see ... I'll try to get this in order. A couple of Saturday's ago we were invited to celebrate the Vietnamese (Tet) New Year. Chinh (our IT guy at PoP) is a 'mover and shaker' in the VN Catholic Church which meets in our area. They are in the process of buying a facility (3.8M, I think) and rented our gym for their fund-raising/festival evening. Boy do they ever put on a show! Just walking into the room was most imnpressive!
their 'staging' was out of this world! we oughta hang drapes more often!
our table was front and center as "special guests' of Chinh
special effects lighting
it just didn't look like a gym!
there must have been over 400 in attendance!
There was all kinds of music, gorgeous costuming, the traditional "dragon-dog" that took the gifts to the building fund ...
sang national anthems of VN and USA
Chinh - on stage
And it was LOUD!!!
Was most impressed at the number of little kids that were there! The event started at 6:00 p.m. - we went home about 10, and the program was only half over! There were raffle prizes - Flat Screen TVs; iPads; and more - Jeff and Becky (our Family Life minister) got a SoniCare Dental System (with one of our tickets that we left them after we left the building!). And no, we didn't ask for it back - they stayed: it was theirs to keep!
The week went well - wonderful weather! Finally got my weather station up! For the past couple of weeks there were gusts (in the city) of over 50 mph; of course, I didn't get them recorded - now I think the top one is 14.9 mph - hardly a breath! But it's nice to know that the temperature isn't 36. It's 35.94613! (Not really, but the accuracy is kinda cool - plus it records it all to my computer, and if I ever need to know what the humidity and dew point and wind speed and chill factor were at 2:13 on any given day, I'll know!
Last weekend was a backyard day for Karina; she's in her element when the gardening gets going- she pruned all the fruit trees, the marionberries, the roses, the shrubs, mowed and thatched the lawn, tilled the garden, dug a well - and I let here!!! (well, she did the pruning part, I made up the rest...) But here she is in the debris bin ... acting like -
Queen of the Garden!
And the marionberries are ready to produce ...
"Go berry, go berry, go berry go!"
And one parting shot - we don't live "on the river..." like some, and have this wonderful view of the Little Sioux River 24/7/365 - BUT - we do have the storm drainage, and when we look over the back fence, it is a lovely sight as well ...
"Somewhere, Over the Drainage"
have a great week, y'all. and once again,
love ya.
Karina and Dan

OK...we are jealous of your storm drainage.
ReplyDeleteGardening in February? Unheard of here....unless you count ordering your garden seeds. Those M/B vines look happy to be rid of last year's growth. A new haircut invigorates many of us. May they bloom w/ abandonment!
We got a double sermon (last two Sunday's) during supper tonight. :) P/P too! Really nice. Esp. liked the 'authority sermon. (Had to giggle a little at the impersonation of the teachings in the tabernacle.)
