Indeed what a special day!
once a year we still do a Mission Fair at Prince of Peace - and what a joy! We hold only one service, have it in the CLC and try to make it a high energy, worshipful occasion for all. We invite Mission exhibitors to share their stories and had 12 groups participate. We did Mexican missions, Lutheran Community Services, an India Orphanage, a Latino mission in LA, African SMILE, our own congregational ROSE team and ministry team, Love INC, Lutheran World Relief, Care to Share, Peaceful Place, and I think I left two out. Anyway, before and after the service they are busy telling their stories. It is really cool, seeing God a work in the neighborhood and in the world!
I had fun bringing the service together and sharing the message - can't believe how good God is for letting me be in this place. I'll put the sermon on the website on Tuesday, again - had a lot of fun preparing this one and being the proclaimer as well. with an evangelism theme, it's hard to go wrong. Again the website is
poplconline.org
then press Church, Sermon, Mission Fair - "Evangelism: Two Umbrellas"

BUT - ya gotta see this one! Near the end of the service I was trying to make a simple point - evangelism begins with "come and see," and to relieve the "threat" of talking to people I included a great video called, "Invite" - you've got to check this one out! lasts about two minutes.

got more than a normal share of comments to this one! probably the best 20 bucks I spent this week!
taking tomorrow off - get to practice my carpenter skills, finishing off the door trim, mop-boards, threshold, etc. in the family room. spent time this afternoon varathaning the wood so it will be ready! If I'm pleased I might add pictures - if not, I'll hire it done!
anyway, have a great week, and if you take up our challenge at Prince of Peace - invite someone to "Come and See!" - but have a second umbrella ready ...
good nite, all

Well, I just listened to the "Be Teleios" sermon -- oh my, thank you for that. But, more than that, I thank God for that. Now I'd like to figure out a way to give that sermon to some important people in my life that may not know just how loved they really are -- please understand that I don't mean: "Pastor sure told THEM today!" I truly want them to know the love that is available to them.
ReplyDelete...and "The Invite" -- really like that! That was $$ well spent, I'd say.
Karina, here's a special 'howdy' to you and we're REALLY, REALLY hoping that the Marionberries do well in 2011. There, was that a big enough hint? Ha! I hid the jar in the dee-ee-eepest part of the frig, but, it's still gone! Need to get back your way to pick some of those beauties someday and learn from the master, er mistress??, the best recipe for M. Jam. It was wonderful!
Hope you're both well and fully-recovered from all the travels by now. Anxious to see the progress in the family room/winery??? sometime.
Love you lots -- R and L
We just had 'church' this morning in the living room. Thank you for your direct succinct message with personal illustrations. We had never heard that VIDA story...so that was enlightening too. Yes, as Rhoda said, the $20 was quite the evangelism program savings. Did you show the video after your Amen of the sermon? Again...thanks. It's fun for both of us to hear your voice and listen to your delivery and your wonderful messages. Keep sending us those links.
ReplyDeleteWe also agree on the marionberry goodness. Our jar still has jam which we frugally administer to toast on 'high breakfast' days.
We look forward to seeing pictures of your other carpentry talents. Perhaps I could show you pix of your brother's electrical talents in exchange!
...and I could keep the 'show-and-tell' theme going with some pix of body results after some of Larry's carpentry endeavors. Want me to get in on the exchange, too? Probably not. Ha-ha.
ReplyDeletethanks for listening! I used the video as part of the sermon - after the conclusion I led into it by saying ... "and if you're still a little hesitant to take on the challenge, here's a video that might help" ... or something to that effect. (I cut the video/audio out of the sermon, because it didn't record well) - then finished the sermon with the "Nathaniel said to Philip ..." passage (which you heard).
ReplyDeleteI got the Maple trim work done under the step; and the threshold down; and the "window" part of the sliding door trimmed! Hurray! Miracles DO happen! sometimes they take more than two years, heh, heh.
and Happy Birthday to the "Birthday girls" this week - Kristi and Rhoda and Judy! So if I forget you on your "real" day, at least you know I thought about ya!
